Spencer Turnbull Placed On Injured List
5 years agoThe Detroit Tigers placed starting pitcher Spencer Turnbull (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with right shoulder fatigue. It means he won't make another start until after the All-Star break. Turnbull was pulled from his outing on Thursday after just two innings when his velocity was down. Manager Ron Gardenhire said Turnbull's MRI didn't show any structural damage, so that's the good news. Turnbull has a history of shoulder problems in his career, and he's already at 89 2/3 innings in 2019. The most he's pitched in any professional season was 135 2/3 innings last year. The 26-year-old rookie has been solid for the Tigers but isn't on an official innings limit. Kyle Funkhouser, Beau Burrows and Drew VerHagen are possibilities to fill Turnbull's rotation spot, while Gregory Soto could make a short spot start. Outfielder Victor Reyes was called up from Triple-A Toledo to take Turnbull's spot on the roster.
