Shohei Ohtani To Join Team Tuesday
6 years agoLos Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (elbow), who has yet to make his season debut while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, appears ready to play and will join the team in Detroit on Tuesday. He'll be evaluated to determine if he's ready to play, according to general manager Billy Eppler. The Japanese star has more than 50 plate appearances in simulated games against minor leaguers over the last couple of weeks, so he should be ready to go. The 24-year-old was the 2018 American League Rookie of the Year and hit .285 with 22 homers and a .925 OPS in 367 plate appearances. He needs to be owned everywhere for his power/speed combination. His return will put Justin Bour and Albert Pujols in a platoon at first base.
