Shohei Ohtani Thinks He Can Return In April
6 years agoLos Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (elbow) took 50 swings on Thursday and believes he can return to the team this month. The Angels have said all along that they didn't think Ohtani would return before the start of May after recovering from Tommy John surgery. He finished his rookie season with a .925 OPS in 367 plate appearances and a 3.31 ERA in 51 2/3 innings on the mound to take the American League Rookie of the Year award. The Japanese two-way star began hitting on the field eight days ago and also made 20 throws from 60 feet on Wednesday, saying "everything has been really smooth." Ohtani has a very intriguing mix of power and speed as a hitter and will certainly help owners in all leagues with his bat when he's ready to return.
