6 years agoLos Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (elbow) hit off a pitching machine on Friday. The team is still targeting a May return, and Ohtani must first hit live batting practice before he's cleared to make his season debut. The two-way Japanese star believes he's ready to return now, but the Angels have other ideas. He won't pitch at all in 2019 after having Tommy John surgery last October, but Ohtani should be stashed everywhere for his bat as well. The 2018 American League Rookie of the Year hit an impressive .285/.361/.564 with 22 home runs, 61 RBI and 10 steals in just 326 at-bats last season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
