6 years agoLos Angeles Angels starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (elbow) is doing well in his rehab from Tommy John surgery and has full range of motion with his arm. He will come back to the United States in January for a checkup, but it's too early for the team to set up a hitting plan for him next year. The Japanese right-hander as the American League Rookie of the Year in 2018 despite not finishing the year on the mound. He'll miss all of 2019 as a pitcher, but he's expected to be able to serve as the DH as long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks. Ohtani will carry nice fantasy value as a hitter next year, as he hit .285/.361/.564 with 22 home runs, 61 RBI, 59 runs scored and 10 steals in just 326 at-bats. He might face right-handers mostly, however, which could lower his ceiling somewhat.
