Shohei Ohtani Faces Live Pitching
6 years agoLos Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (elbow) had four plate appearances in a simulated game at Angel Stadium on Wednesday, according to manager Brad Ausmus. The Japanese two-way star walked twice, hit one hard in the gap and had another live drive to the outfield. Ohtani had Tommy John surgery last October and is on track to join the team next month. He's expected to need at least a week of live batting practice before making his season debut. Ohtani isn't scheduled to go on a rehab assignment. He'll continue to see live pitching every day and could get as many as 10 at-bats in a day. Although he will continue throwing three times a week, Ohtani will not pitch in 2019. He should be stashed in all leagues for his power/speed combination.
