Sergio Romo's 2021 Option Not Picked Up
4 years agoThe Minnesota Twins declined relief pitcher Sergio Romo's $5 million 2021 option on Wednesday, making him a free agent, according to sources. The Twins will give Romo a $250,000 buyout. The 37-year-old veteran was a key late-inning contributor for Minnesota for a Twins bullpen that was among the best in the American League in 2019 and 2020. He posted a 3.59 ERA and eight saves in 51 games over his two seasons with the team. Romo had a 4.05 ERA in 24 outings this year with the second-highest walk rate of his career. He allowed three unearned runs in two-thirds of an inning in the Game 1 loss to the Astros in the wild-card series this year.
