Seiya Suzuki 2025 Player Outlook: Carries Five-Category Upside With Increasing Power And Speed
8 mins agoChicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki carries five-category upside as he enters his fourth MLB season. Last summer, Suzuki posted a career-high .283/.366/.492 line with 21 home runs and 16 stolen bases. This was a nice increase compared to the 20 home runs and six bags he swiped during the 2023 campaign. He added 73 RBI and 74 runs, which were right in line with the 74 RBI and 75 runs he tallied in 2023. However, under the hood, Suzuki continued to take significant strides forward. He posted a career-best 10.8 percent walk rate and a 49.2 percent hard-hit rate, which placed him in the 80th and the 91st percentile, respectively. He also generated a strong 38.8 launch angle sweet-spot rate, which placed him in the 89th percentile. In addition, Suzuki raised his fly-ball rate by 10 points last summer compared to 2023 (24.0 percent - 34.0 percent) and lowered his ground-ball rate by 10 points (43.6 percent - 33.7 percent), which suggests he should continue to see his power production climb. Lastly, the Chicago Cubs acquired superstar outfielder Kyle Tucker, which brings another elite bat to the top half of the lineup. Batting behind Tucker, Ian Happ, and Nico Hoerner will provide Suzuki with elite RBI opportunities. He is a strong choice as a high-upside No. 2/3 OF at his 84.9 ADP on the NFBC.
