Sandy Alcantara Will Take the Ball on Opening Day
4 years agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara will get the Opening Day start. Manager Don Mattingly announced his Opening Day starter, and Alcantara will take the ball on July 24th against the Phillies to kick off the Marlins season. The 2019 All-Star pitched fairly well in 2019, posting a 3.88 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. He doesn't miss a ton of bats and can sometimes struggle with control, as seen by his 151 strikeouts and 81 walks in 197 1/3 innings last season, but he seemed to be pitching better as the season went on. There's reason to believe Alcantara still has plenty of untapped upside, but he may not be perfectly cast as a team's ace. Still, there's certainly a space for Alcantara on most fantasy teams this season.
