Sam Darnold Learning From Mistakes
6 years agoOne of the reasons why New York Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold is expected to start in Week 1 is that he has learned from his mistakes quickly in training camp and the preseason. “He learns from his mistakes, that’s the biggest thing,” head coach Todd Bowles said from his office earlier this week. “He learns from his mistakes and he rarely makes the same mistake twice. Any rookie can only get better by playing, so we’re pleased with the progress he’s making week-by-week. That’s been exciting.” Darnold's path to starting immediately in his first year became much clearer when the Jets traded Teddy Bridgewater to the Saints on Wednesday. New York hasn't made an official decision on Darnold as the starter, but it'd be an upset if he's not named the starter after the final preseason contest. Darnold will make plenty of mistakes as the starter in his rookie year, and that makes him really unattractive in single-year formats. But he has perhaps the most long-term upside of any rookie QB from this draft class, making him an excellent pick in dynasty drafts.
