Saints Finalizing Deal With Jameis Winston
5 years agoThe New Orleans Saints are finalizing a one-year deal with quarterback Jameis Winston on Sunday, according to sources. The deal is expected to be completed quickly now that the 2020 NFL Draft is over, but financials weren't disclosed. Sources say that Winston's 2020 salary will be very economical, fitting into the team's tight salary cap for next season. His signing won't guarantee him the backup job behind Drew Brees, but a best-case scenario will have him compete with Taysom Hill. If Winston shows well with his new club, he could have the chance to be Brees' successor as early as 2021. The Saints also added Tommy Stevens in the seventh round of the draft, and they have given themselves options for when Brees retires. Winston turned the ball over 35 total times but threw for over 5,000 yards with 30 touchdowns in 2019, but his fantasy stock is obviously way down this year as the potential No. 3 in New Orleans.
