Saints Cut Larry Warford
5 years agoThe New Orleans Saints cut offensive guard Larry Warford on Friday, making him immediately one of the top free agents available, according to a source. The Saints gave Warford a $750,000 roster bonus this spring, but his release will save them more than $7 million against the salary cap. After the signings of quarterbacks Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston, the Saints were up against the cap, making this move necessary. Warford was also expendable after New Orleans used a first-round pick on guard/center Cesar Ruiz, who is expected to start immediately on the team's offensive line. The Saints have one of the fastest O-line's in the NFL with the addition of Ruiz, and Warford is one of the slower guards. Still, the 28-year-old (29 next month) has made the Pro Bowl each of the last three years and shouldn't remain on the open market for long.
