Ryan Tepera Returns To Cubs
4 years agoThe Chicago Cubs re-signed relief pitcher Ryan Tepera to an undisclosed major league deal on Friday. According to NBC Sports Chicago's Gordon Wittenmyer, Tepera is guaranteed $800,000 and can make an extra $800,000 in performance incentives and $150,000 via active-roster bonuses. The 33-year-old right-hander posted a 3.92 ERA (3.51 SIERA, 3.34 FIP) with a career-high 34.8 percent strikeout rate and a 13.5 percent walk rate in his first season with Chicago in 2020 in 20 2/3 innings of work. In 236 innings in his major league career, Tepera has a 3.66 ERA, a 24 percent strikeout rate and a 9.1 percent walk rate. He'll need to lower his walk rate from last year to remain effective, but he's not much to look at in fantasy leagues unless he's somehow saving games for the Cubs, which is unlikely.
