Ryan McMahon Making Case For Second Base Job
6 years agoColorado Rockies infielder Ryan McMahon had a .683 OPS and 31.7 percent strikeout rate in 202 plate appearances in 2018, but his swing is pretty and he made adjustments with his hand positioning last season that he hopes will carry over into 2019. He's hitting .462/.511/.821 with two home runs and five strikeouts in 39 spring at-bats and also has a league-best 1.332 OPS. “Last year, there were some hits that you might say aren’t the quality of this year,” manager Bud Black told the Denver Post. “Now he’s ripping the ball. He’s taking big, aggressive swings and the ball is coming off his bat hot. He’s hitting it to all fields. It’s been impressive.” McMahon is competing with Garrett Hampson and Brendan Rodgers for time at the keystone, but he may have earned himself the lion's share of at-bats there already, at least to start the season. He's worth a flier in the late rounds of deep mixed leagues.
