Royals Won't Have Set Closer In 2019
6 years agoEven though Kansas City Royals relief pitcher Wily Peralta was perfect in his 14 save chances while filling in for Kelvin Herrera last year, manager Ned Yost said the team won't have a set closer this year. Yost will think of his relievers mainly as "high-leverage" guys, which includes Peralta, Jake Diekman, Tim Hill and Brad Boxberger. “I may use Peralta in the sixth inning or Diekman in the eighth,” Yost said, “it depends on what the situation is.” Boxberger has the most closing experience, although he ended 2018 poorly. Expect both he and Peralta to see most of the save chances, but this is mostly a situation to avoid with the rebuilding Royals.
