Ronald Torreyes To Be Phillies Shortstop
4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies infielder Ronald Torreyes will serve as the team's starting shortstop for now with Didi Gregorius (elbow) still on the injured list. Manager Joe Girardi said he'd also be comfortable using Luke Williams at the 6, but for now it'll mainly be Torreyes at the position. The 28-year-old is in his seventh big league season and has played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins since entering the majors in 2015. With just five career home runs and 66 RBI in 258 career games, Torreyes won't excite many fantasy managers with his bat. He's a career .278/.307/.372 hitter, but he's swung the bat well this year in 55 plate appearances, slashing .288/.315/.404 with a homer and nine RBI. Torreyes may not be the guy for long, as Gregorius could begin a rehab assignment later this week.
