Roberto Aguayo Waived, Caleb Sturgis Wins Job
6 years agoThe Los Angeles Chargers waived place kicker Roberto Aguayo on Saturday, meaning Caleb Sturgis has won the job, according to ESPN's Field Yates. Aguayo was 3-for-3 on field goals in the preseason and was 6-for-6 on extra points. Sturgis went 2-for-3 on field goals and 2-for-2 on extra points. The kicking spot has been a sore spot for the Chargers in recent seasons, so hopefully Sturgis can bring some consistency to the position in 2018. The 29-year-old played in just one game for the Eagles last year due to injury. He made 35 of his 41 field goal attempts in 2016 and was four of six from 50-plus yards. Sturgis probably won't be drafted in standard-sized leagues, but he could be a waiver addition during the year.
