Reds Agree With Sean Doolittle
4 years agoThe Cincinnati Reds agreed to a one-year deal with free-agent relief pitcher Sean Doolittle on Tuesday, according to a source. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. The 34-year-old left-hander only threw 7 2/3 innings over 11 outings for the Nationals in 2020 while missing time with right knee fatigue and a right oblique strain. He finished the short season with a 5.87 ERA. Doolittle has made nine trips to the injured list since the 2014 season, but he has a 3.07 career ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 111 saves in nine big-league seasons with the A's and Nationals. The Reds traded former closer Raisel Iglesias to the Angels and saw Archie Bradley leave after they non-tendered him, so Doolittle could factor into the saves picture in Cincinnati alongside Amir Garrett in 2021. But until we know for sure that Doolittle will see some run in the ninth inning, he's nothing more than a late-round speculative dart throw for saves.
