Rays Place Yonny Chirinos On 60-Day Injured List
3 years agoThe Tampa Bay Rays placed right-hander Yonny Chirinos (elbow) on the 60-day injured list on Friday to make room for outfielder Luke Raley, whom the Rays acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Chirinos had Tommy John surgery in August of 2020 and is also recovering from surgery last September to fix a broken elbow. The valuable swing man is unlikely to be ready until closer to midseason, so he isn't fantasy relevant in spring drafts. The 28-year-old made just three starts for Tampa in 2021. Chirinos has been effective in his three seasons with the Rays, posting a 3.65 ERA and 1.59 WHIP with 199 strikeouts and 57 walks in 234 1/3 innings over 47 outings (28 starts).
