Rays Acquire Mike Zunino, Guillermo Heredia
6 years agoThe Tampa Bay Rays acquired catcher Mike Zunino, outfielder Guillermo Heredia and minor league pitcher Michael Plassmeyer from the Mariners on Thursday in exchange for outfielder Mallex Smith and minor league outfielder Jake Fraley. Zunino will become the team's starting catcher after hitting .201/.259/.410 with 20 home runs and 44 RBI in 373 at-bats for Seattle last year. He strikes out a ton but has excellent power from a weak position, so he'll carry value in all mixed leagues. Zunino has at least 20 homers in each of the last two years. Heredia is more of a fourth outfielder that doesn't do any one thing particularly well for fantasy owners. Plassmeyer, a lefty, had a sharp 2.25 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 16.5 K/9 in 13 outings (12 starts) for Low-A Everett in his first professional season, so he has some promise moving forward.
