Rangers To Use Two Pitching Coaches In 2021
4 years agoThe Texas Rangers will use Doug Mathis and Brendan Sagara as co-pitching coaches for the 2021 season, with Mathis working from the dugout and Sagara working out of the bullpen. Former pitching Julio Rangel was let go after two seasons on the job and after Texas pitchers combined for a 5.07 ERA the last two years, ranking 26th in the league. Mathis served as the team's bullpen coach last year, which was his first year on the staff under manager Chris Woodward. Sagara was set to serve as the pitching coach for Triple-A Nashville this season but instead coached at the team's alternate site during the shortened 2020 campaign. It will be his first major league coaching role.
