Rafael Devers 2023 Player Outlook: A Reliable Stud Falling In Drafts
2 years agoDevers eclipsed 100 runs and 100 RBI in both 2019 and 2021 but failed to do so in 2022 as the Red Sox offense performed significantly worse. To his credit, he still drove in 88 and scored 84 times while slashing a strong .295/.358/.521 with 27 homers to add to his career total. The kid is just 26 years old and continues to be one of the game's most polished hitters. Devers was one of the few hitters in the league to post a barrel above 10% (11.5%) with a strikeout rate under 20% (18.9%). The list of hitters that have 30 homers and a .300 batting average in the range of outcomes is not a long list, and Devers is certainly one of those guys. There is very little downside to drafting Devers with a top-25 pick, and he will likely be a second-round pick next year after the slightly underwhelming season with very few steals in his game. The first couple of rounds in a fantasy baseball draft are mostly about just not screwing up, and Devers is one of the safest sources of great fantasy production there is. Draft him with confidence.
