Phillies Land J.T. Realmuto In Four-Player Swap
6 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies acquired catcher J.T. Realmuto from the Miami Marlins on Thursday in exchange for catcher Jorge Alfaro, pitching prospect Sixto Sanchez and left-hander Will Stewart and $250,000 in international bonus slot money. Realmuto, 27, is under team control through 2020, but the Phillies may be interested in inking him to a long-term deal now. The All-Star backstop had an .825 OPS with 21 home runs in 2018 and is also considered one of the better defensive catchers. Realmuto will earn $5.9 million in 2019 and will be arbitration-eligible in 2020. The move to the hitting-friendly environment of Philly and a better lineup will only boost Realmuto's fantasy appeal. He should be one of the first catchers off the board.
