Phillies Expected To Approach J.T. Realmuto About Extension
6 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto, who was acquired from Miami on Thursday, was not open to an extension with the rebuilding Marlins, but two sources said extension talks are expected to happen with his new team. Realmuto will turn 28 in March and is under club control for two more years, but the Phillies would still like to lock him up beyond the 2020 season as one of the best all-around catchers in baseball. Realmuto hit an impressive .277/.340/.484 with 21 home runs and 74 RBI last year and could do even better in a better hitting park and in a better lineup in Philadelphia. Early indications are that Realmuto will hit third for the Phils in his first season with them.
