Phillies Confident They'll Land Bryce Harper
6 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies are confident that they will eventually sign free-agent outfielder Bryce Harper and have ramped up negotiations after being motivated after losing out on shortstop Manny Machado, according to a source. The Phillies weren't prepared to give $300 million to Machado, but Harper and his agent, Scott Boras, are likely to want to top Machado's deal. Harper, who turns 27 in October, will give the Phils another huge boost offensively and also give them a much-needed lefty power stick. His 14 career homers at Citizens Bank Park are tied among active visiting players, and his .930 OPS there is the sixth highest. The Giants are also interested in Harper, but they appear hesitant to give him a long-term deal.
