Phillies Acquire Sam Coonrod From Giants
4 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies acquired right-hander Sam Coonrod from the San Francisco Giants on Saturday in exchange for right-hander Carson Ragsdale, according to Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski. The 28-year-old Coonrod has made 51 career appearances for the Giants after being a fifth-round pick in 2014 out of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Coonrod had a 3.58 ERA while holding opponents to a .202/.336/.319 slash line in 33 relief outings in 2019. He ranked fifth in average fastball velocity (98.4 mph) among players who threw at least 50 four-seamers. In the shortened 2020 season, Coonrod had three saves and 15 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings in 18 relief appearances. Ragsdale was a fourth-rounder of the Phillies in 2020 out of South Florida.
