Peyton Burdick Making MLB Debut Friday
2 years agoMiami Marlins outfield prospect Peyton Burdick was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday and will make his major league debut against Chicago Cubs left-hander Justin Steele, as he's starting in left field and hitting seventh in the batting order. The club's No. 10 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, could see regular playing time in Miami's outfielder after Jesus Sanchez was sent down on Thursday. In 88 games for Jacksonville before his call-up, Burdick was hitting .229/.344/.430 with 14 home runs, 51 RBI, 70 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 385 plate appearances. The 25-year-old right-handed hitter has plus power to all fields, but his aggressive approach at the plate leads to a lot of swing and miss. Those in need of power down the stretch in deeper leagues should give Burdick a look.
