Peter Alonso Will Compete For First Base Job
6 years agoNew York Mets general manager Brady Van Wagenen said that first base prospect Peter Alonso will be in big league camp in spring training with a chance to win the first base job. Van Wagenen said "he has a shot to be an impact player." Alonso raised eyebrows at Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Las Vegas this year, hitting a combined .285/.395/.579 with 36 home runs, 31 doubles, 119 RBI and 92 runs scored in 132 games. He continues to raise eyebrows in the Arizona Fall League and is the team's No. 2 prospect. Alonso will likely start the year with Las Vegas, but we'd expect him to be up in the big leagues sooner rather than later. He should already be owned in all dynasty/keeper leagues and is worth a late-round selection in spring drafts.
