3 years agoThe Tampa Bay Rays optioned relief pitcher Louis Head to Triple-A Durham on Thursday, which opens up a spot on the active roster for relief pitcher Pete Fairbanks (shoulder). Fairbanks allowed a run in one inning of work for Durham this past Sunday in his first rehab appearance. The 27-year-old right-hander has been out almost a month with shoulder inflammation, but his return could be right around the corner. Fairbanks recorded five saves earlier this year and was looking like a strong option in the back end of Tampa's bullpen until injuries struck. The Rays are currently employing a closer committee, which includes Andrew Kittredge, JT Chargois and Collin McHugh. The Rays may ease Fairbanks in given his long layoff, but those still chasing saves should keep him on their radar.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
