Pete Fairbanks Injured Sunday
3 years agoTampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Pete Fairbanks exited the Grapefruit League game early after throwing five pitches on Sunday against the New York Yankees with an undisclosed injury. Fairbanks left the mound and headed toward the dugout with an athletic trainer. The Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin is speculating that it's a shoulder injury for Fairbanks, but we won't know for sure until more information is released. With less than two weeks until Opening Day, the 28-year-old right-hander is in serious danger of missing the start of the season. Fairbanks had five saves and struck out 56 hitters in 42 2/3 innings of work last year, so an extended absence could open up more save chances in Tampa for Andrew Kittredge and J.T. Chargois.
