Paul DeJong Has Surgery On His Hand
6 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong (hand) had surgery on his hand this week after he fractured his hand in late May. The surgery was done to remove the plate from his hand, which will put him in a cast for another few weeks. DeJong said he'll be fine to resume offseason workouts in a month or so. In 74 games after he fractured his hand, DeJong hit just .231/.292/.413 with a .705 OPS and 11 home runs, although 10 of those came to finish the season in a strong stretch run. He is expected to start at shortstop in 2019 after having a career-best 14 defensive runs saved, which ranked second in the National League among shortstops.
