Patriots Unlikely To Pursue Jameis Winston
5 years agoThe New England Patriots are "unlikely" to target free-agent quarterback Jameis Winston as the replacement for Tom Brady, according to a high-ranking Patriots official. Winston led the league in passing yards and touchdowns, but he also threw for a league-high 30 interceptions, becoming the first quarterback to have 30 touchdowns and 30 picks in the same season. In contrast, Brady has thrown 29 interceptions in the last four seasons combined and has never thrown more than 14 picks in a single season. Because of Winston's turnover-prone ways, head coach Bill Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will likely pass on him, as will most of the rest of the league when they're looking for a starter under center. Winston put up fantasy relevant numbers in 2019, but it's looking like he'll have to settle for backup work in 2020.
