Panthers Run Defense Has Struggled
6 years agoThe Carolina Panthers run defense stood out as a weakness in their 31-24 Week 2 loss to the Falcons on Sunday. Atlanta snapped the team's 21-game streak of not allowing a 100-yard rusher when Tevin Coleman ran for 107 yards in place of the injured Devonta Freeman (knee). Rookie Ito Smith even had five yards per carry in his limited chances. In total, Carolina gave up 170 ground yards, which is more than any Panthers opponent last year. Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, not known for his speed, scored twice on the ground. Carolina's run defense was strong for the most part last year, but this is something to watch for as a potential weakness in 2018.
