The American is coming off a third-round submission win over Ryan Mondala back in July and is on a three-fight winning streak. Phillips is coming off a decision win over Pedro Munhoz back in March and is on a three-fight winning streak. The bantamweight contender enters the bout as the favorite as DraftKings has him at a salary of $9,300. In the UFC, Phillips is 6-1 with just two wins by stoppage while his lone loss was by decision. 1 month agoJunYong Park got back in the win column when he defeated Brad Tavares in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 98 on Saturday. Park got dropped in the first 30 seconds of the fight but recovered to control the latter part of the fight. Park's takedowns late in the second and third rounds may have been the difference-maker on the scorecards. In 15 minutes of action, Park landed two takedowns and 99 significant strikes. 1 month agoBrad Tavares was not able to get back in the win column as he lost his UFC Vegas 98 co-main event bout with JunYong Park via split decision. In the first round, Tavares was able to hurt and knock Park down, but Park was able to recover and return fire. Park was able to push the pace and win the second and the third round on the judges' scorecards. Tavares is still one win away from tying Michael Bisping's record for UFC middleweight victories. In 15 minutes of action, Tavares landed a knockdown and 65 significant strikes. With the loss, Tavares is now 20-10 and as a pro and 15-10 in the UFC, while being on a two-fight losing streak.Source: UFC
1 month agoRafa Garcia wasn't able to walk out victorious after his UFC Vegas 98 main card bout against Grant Dawson as he was stopped via second-round TKO. Garcia wasn't able to do much in this fight. Dawson used his wrestling to control Garcia and slowly began punishing Garcia with ground and pound. The underdog Garcia absorbed a nasty elbow that opened a cut above his eye and that was the beginning of the end for Garcia. Garcia began to scramble but in the end, he just absorbed more damage. Following a barrage of strikes, the referee decided to step in and end the match. In 6:42 of action, Garcia managed to land only five significant strikes. Source: UFC
1 month agoOn the main card of UFC Vegas 98, Grant Dawson defeated Rafa Garcia by a second-round TKO. In the second round of the fight, Dawson landed a takedown and landed a nasty elbow from within the guard that split Garcia open. Garcia tried to escape but Dawson started landing devastating blows, and quickly after, the referee was forced to step in and stop the fight. In 6:42 of action, Dawson landed two takedowns and 44 significant strikes. Dawson improved his record to 22-2-1 with this victory.Source: UFC
1 month agoJared Gooden suffered a unanimous decision loss to Chidi Njokuani on the main card of UFC Vegas 98 on Saturday. After three rounds, the scores were 30-27, 30-27, and 30-27 all in favor of Njokuani. Njokuani was better of the two in the striking exchanges, dominant in the clinch and even getting the better of the action on the mat too. In 15 minutes of action, Gooden landed two takedowns and 20 significant strikes. With the loss, Gooden dropped to 23-10. He is 3-3 in his last six.Source: UFC
1 month agoOn Saturday, Chidi Njokuani picked up a unanimous decision victory over Jared Gooden on the main card of UFC Vegas 98. In 15 minutes of action, Njokuani landed 105 significant strikes compared to Gooden who landed only 20 significant strikes. Coming in off a victory over Rhys McKee and now defeating Gooden, Njokuani has won two straight fights. With the win, Njokuani is now 4-3 in the UFC.Source: UFC
1 month agoAlex Morono suffered a split-decision loss to Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Vegas 98. Morono started strong as he outstruck Rodriguez 31-to-25. However, he once again faded as his cardio let him down. Morono was outstruck 44-to-23 in the second round and 57-to-37 in the third round while also being taken down once. It was a disappointing loss for Morono who now fell to 24-11 and one NC as a pro and 13-8 and one NC in the UFC. Morono will likely have to fight for his job in his next fight.Source: UFC
1 month agoDaniel Rodriguez scored a split-decision win over Alex Morono to snap his three-fight losing streak. Rodriguez entered the fight as the favorite but he struggled early on as the American was outstruck. However, after dropping the first round, Rodriguez picked up the pace as he outstruck Morono 44-to-23. In the final round, as Morono slowed down, Rodriguez outstruck him 57-to-37 while also recording a takedown to secure the fight and get the win. With the win, Rodriguez improved to 18-5 as a pro and is now 8-4 in the UFC and likely saved his job with the victory.Source: UFC
1 month agoTatsuro Taira suffered a split decision loss to Brandon Royval in the main event of UFC Vegas 98 on Saturday. Taira was outstruck in the first round, but in the second round, he was able to get his grappling going as he took Royval down and had over 4 minutes of control. Yet, Taira couldn't get the takedowns in the third round, but he did so in the fourth as he controlled Royval for over 4 minutes again. In the fifth round, in what likely was going to be the deciding round, Taira was outstruck 57-to-15. When the final bell rang, it was Royval who scored a split-decision win. With the loss, Taira fell to 16-1 as a pro and 6-1 in the UFC. Taira should still get a top-10 opponent next.Source: UFC
1 month agoBrandon Royval scored a split decision win over Tatsuro Taira in the main event of UFC Vegas 98 on Saturday. Royval entered the bout as a sizeable underdog. He started the fight strong outstriking Taira 17-to-11 but in the second round, he was controlled for over four minutes. Royval then dominated the third round outstriking Taira 81-to-7, before being controlled for nearly the entire fifth round. In the fifth round, Royval was able to keep the fight standing and outstruck Taira 57-to-15 to edge out the decision win. With the win, Royval improved to 17-7 as a pro and 7-3 in the UFC.
