23 hours agoHouston Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker (shin) was able to some swings with the bat on Sunday. The expectation is that Tucker is going to resume running within the next few days. Tucker is currently scheduled for a light throwing session on Friday. He'll likely go on a minor league rehab assignment soon after that. The Astros expect Tucker to return shortly after his 15-day injured list stint ends. Fantasy managers shouldn't have to wait much longer for Tucker's return to the field.Source: Chandler Rome
23 hours agoSan Francisco Giants pitcher Randy Rodriguez will serve as the opener for Tuesday's game against the Chicago Cubs. It appears the Giants are going to go with a bullpen game here. Rodriguez will likely pitch a few innings, but probably not enough to factor into the decision. The 24-year-old holds a 4.82 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 31/9 K/BB ratio in 18 games. Fantasy managers should probably look elsewhere for a streaming option on Tuesday.Source: mlb.com
23 hours agoMinnesota Twins outfielder Max Kepler (neck) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The left-handed slugger is back in the lineup following a three-game absence due to neck spasms. Kepler will bat cleanup and play right field against right-hander Brandon Pfaadt. Fantasy managers who have Kepler rostered can get him back in their lineups on Tuesday.Source: mlb.com
23 hours agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez (personal) was scheduled to fly from the Dominican Republic to Chicago on Tuesday, but manager Dave Roberts said after Monday night's game against the White Sox that he will give Hernandez another day off. Fantasy managers need not fret, as Hernandez left the team to deal with a personal matter and should be back in the starting lineup on Wednesday. With Hernandez out of action for a second straight day, Miguel Vargas will draw into the lineup in left field and bat eighth against White Sox right-hander Chris Flexen. The 31-year-old Hernandez has been extremely productive in the middle of a powerhouse Dodgers lineup in his first year in LA and is a must-start in fantasy when he's active. He's currently batting .254/.321/.492 with an .813 OPS, 18 long balls, 16 doubles, a triple, 54 RBI and four steals in 79 games.Source: Los Angeles Times - Mike DiGiovanna
24 hours agoColorado Rockies infielder Elehuris Montero is out of the team's starting lineup as they take on the hosting Houston Astros on Tuesday. It will be the fourth straight game that Montero has found himself on the bench as he continues to lose playing time in Colorado. He's losing precious playing time to Michael Toglia, who is starting at first base on Tuesday and batting seventh against Astros right-hander Hunter Brown. The 25-year-old Dominican right-handed slugger doesn't belong on rosters in mixed fantasy leagues at this point, as he's also slashing just .209/.272/.309 with a weak .581 OPS, four home runs, 10 doubles, 28 RBI, 23 runs scored, 20 walks and 53 strikeouts in 243 trips to the plate over 65 games in his third year in the majors. Montero has been worse in June, going 10-for-57 (.175) with a homer, three doubles, seven RBI and 18 K's in 17 games played.Source: MLB.com
24 hours agoSt. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado (forearm) is back at third base and is batting sixth in the order on Tuesday against the visiting Atlanta Braves and right-hander Reynaldo Lopez. Arenado has been beat up of late and missed the team's last two games due to left-forearm soreness. He also missed a game last week after being hit by a pitch in the elbow. The 33-year-old All-Star is back in there, though, albeit a little further down the batting order as he tries to turn his season around at the plate. Arenado has tailed off in the batting average department the last two years and is currently slashing only .257/.315/.371 with six home runs, 32 RBI and 26 runs scored in 71 games played. Fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting a return to the 30-homer mark in 2024 unless he goes on an absolutely crazy run at some point. He has never faced Lopez in his career.Source: Belleville News - Jeff Jones
24 hours agoSeattle Mariners right-hander Bryan Woo (hamstring) is heading back to the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with what he called a low-grade hamstring strain. Woo suffered the hamstring strain in his start on Monday night in Tampa against the Rays and will now miss at least several weeks. Although Woo's injury doesn't sound serious, given the timing of the injury, he may be fighting an uphill battle to return to Seattle's starting rotation before the All-Star break in mid-July. In a corresponding move, the M's called up pitcher Collin Snider from Triple-A Tacoma. Woo has pitched great in 2024 but has had terrible injury luck. Emerson Hancock would be the logical replacement for Woo in Seattle, but he's currently dealing with lower-back tightness at Tacoma. Woo deserves to be stashed where he's rostered after going 3-1 so far this year with a 1.77 ERA and 0.69 WHIP in eight starts.Source: Seattle Sports - Shannon Drayer
24 hours agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho (back) remains out of the team's starting lineup on Tuesday at Fenway Park against the hosting Boston Red Sox. Veteran Kevin Kiermaier will make another start in center field and will bat ninth for the Blue Jays against Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello. Kiermaier has very little DFS appeal out of the nine-hole, but he is hitting .286 with two RBI in seven career at-bats against Bello. Varsho injured his back on Saturday and will be missing his third straight game on Tuesday. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day until further notice. The 27-year-old outfielder is hitting only .207 (50-for-242) in 2024 but has appealing power/speed upside for fantasy managers with 11 home runs and eight stolen bases in 72 games.Source: Toronto Blue Jays
1 day agoThe Toronto Blue Jays activated shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned outfielder Steward Berroa to Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. It ended up being a minimal stay on the injured list for Bichette, who was dealing with a minor calf injury. The 26-year-old All-Star is back at shortstop and is batting leadoff for the team on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox and right-hander Brayan Bello at Fenway Park. Despite the fact that Bichette hasn't looked like himself this year, fantasy managers in single-year leagues will want to insert him into their starting lineups. He's hit .417 with a 1.000 OPS and an RBI in 12 career at-bats versus Bello. In 52 plate appearances in June before his injury, Bichette had gone 10-for-49 (.204) with four doubles and three RBI in 13 games.Source: MLB.com - Keegan Matheson
1 day agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Will Benson (elbow) is starting in left field and is batting eighth against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates and right-hander Mitch Keller on Tuesday. Benson was hit by a pitch on his left elbow on Sunday and he missed Monday's contest, but X-rays came back negative and he's back in action against a right-handed pitcher. The 26-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder should probably be avoided in DFS lineups on Tuesday for a variety of reasons, though. For one, he's hitless in six career at-bats against Keller. Second of all, Benson has really looked bat at the plate in the month of June, batting .156 (7-for-45) with a double, five RBI, one steal and 23 strikeouts in 19 games to drop his season line to a weak .192/.287/.379. Benson hasn't gone yard since May 28.Source: Cincinnati Reds
1 day agoCincinnati Reds first baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand (hand) will have right-hand surgery on July 11. The surgery comes with an expected recovery timeline of three months, so he'll essentially miss the rest of the 2024 season. Encarnacion-Strand initially went on the injured list in early May with what the team called a right ulnar styloid fracture in his hand, but additional testing showed ligament damage. Fantasy managers were expecting a lot from the 24-year-old power hitter after he batted .270 with 13 home runs in only 63 games in his rookie season in 2023, so this is obviously a big blow for anyone that drafted him. CES ended up playing in only 29 games this year and hit .190/.220/.293 with two homers and 16 RBI. Spencer Steer should continue to man first base for the Reds moving forward, which has opened up playing time at third base for Santiago Espinal.Source: MLB.com - Mark Sheldon
1 day agoTampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena is retreating to the bench on Tuesday against the visiting Seattle Mariners. Josh Lowe will serve as the designated hitter and will bat second, while Jonny DeLuca draws into the lineup in left field and will hit in the nine-hole against Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo. It will be the struggling Arozarena's first day off this month. The 29-year-old has hit 10 home runs and stolen 10 bases, but he's batting just .191 (51-for-267) on the year after making his first All-Star appearance in 2023. The good news is that he could be pulling out of his season-long slump, as he's gone 11-for-33 (.333) with two home runs, three doubles, seven RBI, three stolen bases and five runs scored in his last 10 games. Don't give up on Arozarena just yet in 2024.Source: MLB.com
1 day agoTampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe (toe) remains sidelined on Tuesday against the visiting Seattle Mariners. Lowe suffered a broken right pinkie toe on Saturday and will now start on the bench for a third straight game, which is no big surprise. The Rays are hoping the oft-injured 29-year-old can avoid a trip to the injured list, though. He was available to pinch hit on Sunday, so it's possible that he'll be ready to play by the end of the week if he's feeling better. The speedy Jose Caballero is at second base and batting third, with Taylor Walls at shortstop and hitting seventh on Tuesday against Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo. Lowe has decent pop at second base, but he just hasn't been right this year and is hitting just .217 (25-for-115) with only five homers and 22 RBI.Source: MLB.com

1 day agoBaltimore Orioles first baseman/designated hitter Ryan O'Hearn and outfielder Cedric Mullins will take a seat on Tuesday against the visiting Cleveland Guardians with a left-hander on the mound. Infielder Ramon Urias is also starting on the bench. Adley Rutschman will serve as the designated hitter and bat leadoff, rookie Colton Cowser is in center field and batting ninth, and Jordan Westburg is playing third and hitting fifth against Guardians left-hander Logan Allen. James McCann is catching and batting eighth. O'Hearn and Mullins typically hit the bench with lefties on the mound. McCann is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak, going 7-for-22 with eight RBI. Mullins has become a part-time player in Baltimore this year given his overall struggles at the plate. He's hitting just .204.Source: MASN Sports - Roch Kubatko
