2 days agoLos Angeles Rams offensive assistant/passing-game specialist Nate Scheelhaase has emerged as a leading candidate for the Jacksonville Jaguars' offensive-coordinator job, multiple sources told KPRC's Aaron Wilson. The expectation is that Scheelhaase will ultimately be hired for the position to assist first-time head coach Liam Coen in Jacksonville. Scheelhaase interviewed with the Jaguars for the offensive-coordinator job after he interviewed for the same position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Before spending the last four years with the Rams, he was the offensive coordinator at Iowa State. Scheelhaase began his coaching career at Illinois after he w a second-team All-Big Ten quarterback in 2013. The 34-year-old has quickly developed a reputation for being a bright offensive mind. Coen has already announced that he will call plays for the Jaguars offense in 2025.Source: KPRC 2 Sports - Aaron Wilson
2 days agoThe Jacksonville Jaguars hired Hall of Fame left tackle Tony Boselli, who was the first pick in franchise history, as their new executive vice president of football operations. Boselli will be in charge of player engagement, football technology, football travel and logistics, equipment, sports performance, team security and football communications. He helped advise owner Shad Khan during the team's recent coaching search and sat in during in-person head-coaching interviews. "My job is not to pick players, my job is not to coach and surely my job is not to go play," Boselli said. "My job is to support (the coach and the GM), and that's what I'll do." He was a five-time Pro Bowler and spent seven seasons playing for the Jaguars, but his playing days in the NFL were cut short due to a botched shoulder surgery.Source: The Associated Press - Mark Long
2 days agoCleveland Browns All-Pro pass-rusher Myles Garrett has officially requested a trade. However, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that the Browns "are sticking to their stance and do not intend to have any conversations or trade Garrett." During last year's trading deadline, teams were interested in acquiring Garrett, but the Browns were adamant that Garrett was not available. With Garrett wanting to be traded now and the Browns sticking to their stance, things could get ugly going forward and Garrett could hold out of the entire offseason with Cleveland. The 29-year-old was the Defensive Player of the Year in 2023 and has had at least 14 sacks in each of the last four seasons. Garrett is a six-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro with 102.5 sacks in eight years in Cleveland. If the Browns give in and trade him, they'll likely be seeking two first-round picks for Garrett.Source: NFL Network - Mike Garofolo
3 days agoThe New York Jets have hired Charles London as their quarterbacks coach. This will be a lateral move for London who was the quarterbacks coach with the Seattle Seahawks this past season. London has been in the NFL for a number of years. He was the quarterbacks coach with the Atlanta Falcons for two seasons. After that, London joined the Tennessee Titans as their quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator in 2023. The Jets are likely going to bring in a new quarterback this offseason, so having an experienced quarterbacks coach is important.Source: Tom Pelissero
3 days agoPittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson appears to have little interest playing elsewhere next season. There have been rumors that Wilson would want to join his former head coach Pete Carroll in Las Vegas next season. However, Wilson has squashed those rumors and says that his primary focus is on the Steelers. The 36-year-old is set to be a free agent this summer and isn't exactly a lock to return to Pittsburgh. Wilson threw for 2,482 passing yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions in 11 regular season games. He helped the Steelers make the postseason, but they were quickly eliminated by the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers don't have another viable option at quarterback with Justin Fields also heading to free agency. It seems like there's a good chance Wilson returns to Pittsburgh, but him heading to Las Vegas shouldn't be ruled out yet.Source: AP News
3 days agoThe New York Jets have hired Scott Turner as their new passing-game coordinator. Turner was the pass game coordinator with the Las Vegas Raiders before becoming the interim offensive coordinator this past season. Turner was the OC for the Carolina Panthers in 2019 before joining the Washington Commanders for the same job from 2020-2022. Turner appears to be a good hire to help out new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand in New York. Both are fairly young coaches, but have been impressive early in their coaching careers.Source: Tom Pelissero
3 days agoThe Las Vegas Raiders have decided to hire Chip Kelly as their new offensive coordinator. Kelly most recently was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with Ohio State this past season. He also had stints as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers before heading to UCLA to be the head coach from 2018-2023. Carroll and Kelly briefly coached against each other when Kelly was with the 49ers and Carroll was coaching the Seattle Seahawks. Now, the two sides will join forces in hopes of turning around this Raiders team. Kelly is a intelligent offensive mind, so this appears to be a great hire by the Raiders.Source: Adam Schefter
3 days agoAccording to Bill Barnwell of ESPN.com, Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa could be a cap casualty during the offseason. Barnwell noted that Bosa logged only 14 games during the 2022 and 2023 seasons and missed three games this past season. During the season, Bosa could not log more than 20 defensive snaps in four contests. However, the former third-overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft took a pay cut last season and may have to do the same again to remain on the Chargers heading into 2025. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Bosa's status during the offseason, as he could be released due to his high salary and inability to remain on the field. This past season, Bosa tallied just 22 tackles with five sacks. This was his third straight season failing to tally double-digit sacks.Source: Bill Barnwell
3 days agoAccording to Bill Barnell of ESPN.com, the Detroit Lions could release quarterback Hendon Hooker during the offseason. Barnwell noted that since the team re-signed veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater late in the season, it appears that the Lions do not view Hooker as a potential starting quarterback. Hooker was selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He did not see the field during his rookie season but was able to log 32 snaps this past season. Hooker went 6-for-9 with 62 yards. He added two yards on five rushing attempts. Seeing that the team did not want to enter the postseason with Hooker as the No. 2 option is a telling sign. In addition, the Lions also signed Jared Goff to a four-year extension last May, signaling him as the QB1 for the foreseeable future. Hooker only carries low-end stash value in deeper superflex dynasty formats, as he could be given an opportunity to compete for a backup role elsewhere.Source: Bill Barnwell

3 days agoAccording to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Denver Broncos are expected to "take a look" at a versatile back for Sean Payton's rushing scheme. Fowler noted that given Jones' eight years of NFL experience, he could be a strong fit for a team that is looking to take the next step. During the 2024 season, the Broncos struggled to generate much on the ground as they tallied the 17th-most rushing yards per game (112.2). Javonte Williams tallied the most yards out of the backfield (513), with Jaleel McLaughlin just behind with 496 yards. In his debut campaign in Minnesota, Aaron Jones ran for 1,138 yards with five scores on 255 attempts. He added 408 yards and two scores on 51 receptions. Even though he is entering his age-30 season, Jones should be in a good position to tally over 1,000 yards on the ground once again in 2025.Source: Jeremy Fowler
3 days agoAccording to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, the Jacksonville Jaguars could emerge as a suitor for defensive back Carlton Davis III. Fowler noted that the Jaguars are not expected to spend a lot but could look to improve their secondary, as they allowed the most passing yards this past season. The 28-year-old suffered a season-ending jaw injury following their Week 15 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Across 13 contests, Davis tallied 56 tackles (42 solo) with 14 assists and 11 pass deflections. He added two interceptions, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. Davis spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Davis will join a crowded defensive back market in free agency with D.J. Reed, Charvarius Ward, and Byron Murphy Jr.Source: Jeremy Fowler
4 days agoThe Indianapolis Colts have hired Chris Hewitt to their coaching staff on Saturday. Hewitt most recently was the assistant head coach and defensive pass game coordinator with the Baltimore Ravens. He joined the Ravens in 2012 as the assistant special teams coach and worked his way up to assistant head coach this past season. He'll now head to the Colts as the defensive pass game coordinator and secondary coach. This appears to be a solid addition for the Colts who are looking to retool their staff after a lackluster season in 2024.Source: Tom Pelissero
4 days agoThe Las Vegas Raiders have interviewed Jerrod Johnson for their vacant offensive-coordinator position. Johnson is currently the quarterbacks coach with the Houston Texans. It's worth noting that Johnson is also in the running for the Texans offensive coordinator job. Johnson was the assistant quarterbacks coach with the Minnesota Vikings before getting the QBs coach job with Houston in 2023. He seems to be a smart offensive mind that should benefit whichever organization ends up landing him.Source: Aaron Wilson
4 days agoPhiladelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson says that he'll be returning next season whether they win or lose the upcoming Super Bowl. The 12-year veteran did mention that he's going to take it year-to-year after the 2025 season. Johnson has been a key piece to the Eagles success on offense and will now head to his second Super Bowl over the last three seasons. The 34-year-old can likely pick when he wants to retire as the Eagles are likely going to continue bringing him back as long he plays at an elite level. Johnson isn't a free agent until 2027, so he'll likely be in Philly until then.Source: Tim McManus
