2 weeks agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jose Quintana tossed six-and-two-thirds shutout innings in Saturday's 4-0 victory over the Reds, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out six batters on the way to picking up his eighth win of the season. It was the third consecutive start in which the southpaw gave up one earned run or fewer, although it has been somewhat of a mixed bag for fantasy as he also only struck out 12 batters in 18 innings over that stretch (6.00 K/9). It has been much of the same all season, pitching to a 4.09 ERA (4.89 FIP), 1.31 WHIP, a 9.1% K-BB%, and a 6.99 K/9. The 35-year-old gets a tough matchup his next time out on the road against Philadelphia next Friday.Source: ESPN
2 weeks agoMiami Marlins infielder Connor Norby kept on hitting on Saturday, going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in a 9-5 win over the Phillies. He's now collected at least one hit in 16 of 17 games since the Marlins called him up, posting a .319-4-9-16-2 line over that stretch. If there's something to be concerned about it is the high strikeout rate (33.0%) and below-average walk rate (4.7%) on the season between Baltimore and Miami, but that can be expected from a 24-year-old making his major league debut. Plus, he's marginally improved both during his time with the Marlins. Regardless, the former second-round draft pick looks like the real deal and should prove to be a solid contributor for the remainder of this season.Source: ESPN
2 weeks agoMilwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames belted his 30th home run of the season in a 2-for-4 day at the plate during Saturday's 5-2 win over the Rockies. The 29-year-old also swiped a pair of bags in the contest, giving him 18 stolen bases on the season. It was the eighth home run in the last 13 games for the Dominican, and with 101 RBI on the season, he leads the National League in that category. After a poor month of June, the slugger was slashing .229/.321/.408, but has hit well ever since and now has the slashline up to a much more respectable .253/.335/.473 along with a .347 wOBA and 123 wRC+.Source: ESPN
2 weeks agoSan Francisco Giants outfielder Grant McCray accounted for most of the Giants' offense out of the nine-hole in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Padres, going 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and five RBI in the contest. It was the second consecutive multi-hit effort for the 23-year-old and gave him five home runs in 19 games since being called up in August. He's now slashing .262/.294/.569 in 68 plate appearances and, for desperate managers, the former third-round draft pick has some speed too, collecting three steals in his short stint in the majors. With a 39.7% strikeout rate, however, he'll be hard to trust for fantasy as the wheels could come off at any moment.Source: ESPN
2 weeks agoWashington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews went 2-for-3 including a home run and a double, along with a walk, two RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Pirates in Game 1 of their doubleheader. The 22-year-old has held his own since being called up, with six of his 10 hits going for extra bases and he's stolen five bases in just 11 games. Perhaps even more impressive is that he's struck out just once over the last six games (28 plate appearances). Hopefully he can stay productive throughout the fantasy playoffs as well and he's surely going to be a multi-category producer in 2025.Source: ESPN
2 weeks agoArizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez slugged his 25th homer on Saturday in an 11-5 loss to the Houston Astros. The veteran is now hitting .244 with 25 home runs, 88 RBI, two stolen bases and 76 runs scored. Signed as a free agent last winter, Suarez looks to be on track for a 30-home-run season as the Diamondbacks fight for a playoff spot. Over his last 15 games, Suarez has seven home runs, 19 RBI, and is hitting a robust .385.Source: Arizona Diamondbacks on mlb.com
2 weeks agoHouston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve homered Saturday in an 11-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The homer was one of three hits for the veteran. During the season Altuve has hit an even .300 with 19 home runs, 59 RBI, 20 stolen bases, and 85 runs scored. He continues to be the catalyst in an excellent Houston lineup. Altuve is hitting .346 in his last seven games atop the lineup. He will look to continue his hot hitting in the series finale tomorrow against Arizona.Source: Houston Astros on mlb.com
2 weeks agoToronto Blue Jays first baseman Spencer Horwitz homered twice among four hits Saturday in a 9-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Both home runs came off Atlanta starter Spencer Schwellenbach. Horwitz is now hitting .269 with 11 home runs, 32 RBI and 41 runs scored. The rookie has been hot over his last seven games, hitting .407 with three homers and six RBI. Continue to use him in lineups as he is playing daily and racking up some counting stats at this late stage in the season.Source: Toronto Blue Jays on mlb.com
2 weeks agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill homered twice in a 7-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox Saturday evening. The veteran hit his first home run off Garrett Crochet in the first inning, and the second off reliever Enyel De Los Santos in the fifth. O'Neill knocked in three runs and also scored three runs. On the season, he is hitting .258 with 27 home runs, 53 RBI, four stolen bases and 67 runs scored. That's also three home runs in the last seven games. O'Neill is a good power source at this late season stage. He will look to continue his hot hitting in the series finale tomorrow against the White Sox.Source: Boston Red Sox on mlb.com
2 weeks agoDetroit Tigers closer Jason Foley picked up his 21st save of the season on Saturday as the Tigers beat the Oakland Athletics 2-1. Foley replaced Sean Guenther with one out in the ninth, gave up a single and recorded one strikeout on his way to securing the save. Foley now has a 2.92 ERA and ranks 10th in the AL in saves. With 21 saves in 24 opportunities, Foley has shown he can slam the door shut when given the opportunity. His fantasy value is still held back by the limited amount of opportunities he has with the Tigers, but he remains a solid option when given the chance. Fantasy managers looking for help in the closer role may want to look at Foley for the coming week as he may have more opportunities than normal coming up with the Colorado Rockies set to visit Detroit this week.Source: MLB.com

2 weeks agoWashington Nationals starting pitcher DJ Herz threw five hitless innings on Saturday and picked up the win in the first game of the Nationals-Pirates doubleheader as Washington won 5-3. Herz struck out five and walked three in the process, unable to go deeper in the game after throwing 87 pitches in five innings. The lefty has provided solid value for the Nationals in his rookie season, posting a 3.82 ERA in just over 75 innings pitched. With an xERA of 3.37 it'd appear that positive regression is likely for the lefty in his remaining starts this season. Fantasy managers looking for a late season find may want to consider adding Herz to their roster. The 23-year-old will look to continue improving in his next scheduled start on Thursday against the Miami Marlins. Herz previously faced the Marlins in June and struck out 13 in six innings. Fantasy managers and DFS managers should both target Herz for his start against Miami.Source: MLB.com
2 weeks agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez (foot) said on Saturday that scans came back clean on his foot. He also stated he was feeling much better today and is hopeful he can return by Monday or Tuesday for the Dodgers' series against the Chicago Cubs. Hernandez left Friday night's game after being hit by a pitch. Initially it sounded like he wasn't doing great, according to manager Dave Roberts, so getting this news and avoiding the 10-day IL as initially expected is great news to hear. The 31-year-old has been very consistent for the Dodgers, hitting for a 130 OPS+ in 2024. His bat will certainly be missed in an important series against the Cleveland Guardians. Andy Pages is starting in left field for the Dodgers Saturday night in Hernandez's absence and should be expected to get starts that Hernandez will miss.Source: Fabian Ardaya
2 weeks agoSt. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado is officially in the Cardinals' lineup for their Saturday night tilt against the Seattle Mariners and will start at third base as normal. Arenado was removed from Friday night's game in the ninth inning with left shoulder soreness. Given that the 33-year-old is back in the starting lineup and playing his normal defensive position, there shouldn't be much worry about the injury for Cardinals fans and fantasy managers alike going forward. Arenado has had a subpar season with his bat by his standards, hitting for just a 98 OPS+. With the Cardinals fighting for a wild card spot (6.0 GB) they will need Arenado to turn it up offensively for them to be able to have a shot at contention. He'll have a tough test on Saturday night facing off against Mariners' starter Logan Gilbert. Fantasy managers should keep Arenado in their starting lineups but DFS managers may want to temper expectations given the stout matchup.Source: St. Louis Cardinals
