3 days agoFree agent wide receivers Miles Boykin and Denzel Mims worked out for the Seattle Seahawks, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. The Ravens drafted Boykin in the third round of the 2019 draft and he also spent time with the Steelers. The Jets drafted Mims as a second-rounder in 2020 and he has since spent time with the Lions, Jaguars, and Steelers. With the trio of DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Seattle is pretty set at the top of its wide receiver depth chart but either Boykin or Mims could add to the wide receiver room if given a chance with the Seahawks.Source: Tom Pelissero
3 days agoThe Seattle Seahawks worked out quarterback Ian Book, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports. The Saints drafted Book as a fourth-round pick in the 2021 draft and he has since spent time with the Eagles, Patriots, and Chiefs. With Geno Smith and Sam Howell solidified as the starter and backup at the quarterback position, the Seahawks likely view Book as a depth option. He should not be fantasy-relevant even if he were to sign with Seattle.Source: Tom Pelissero
3 days agoThe Buffalo Bills brought in free-agent kickers Anders Carlson and Cade York for workouts, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Bills starting kicker Tyler Bass has made three of four field-goal attempts so far this season, but the team is looking at other options after Bass missed by a wide margin on his lone failed attempt. Bass has also struggled with the new kickoff at times this season. Carlson struggled in his rookie season last year with the Green Bay Packers, and York had stints with the Cleveland Browns and Washington Commanders.Source: Tom Pelissero
3 days agoThe Cleveland Browns have placed wide receiver David Bell (hip) on injured reserve after he was carted off the field following a hit early in the third quarter, with trainers lifting his right leg for support. Before his injury, Bell had three receptions for 27 yards in Sunday's victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, before he suffered a dislocated hip. A third-round pick in 2022, Bell has accumulated 41 catches for 408 yards and three touchdowns across 32 games, including eight receptions for 54 yards in last season's playoff loss to the Texans. Fantasy managers can anticipate increased roles for Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy, Jerome Ford, and D'Onta Foreman going forward. Additionally, the Browns have signed receiver Jaelon Darden and running back Royce Freeman to their practice squad.Source: Around The NFL @AroundTheNFL
3 days agoThe Carolina Panthers have promoted tight end Feleipe Franks from the practice squad to the active roster. Franks saw limited action in Sunday's 26-3 loss to the Chargers, playing just one offensive snap as starting tight end Tommy Tremble was active. A one-year starter at Arkansas, Franks spent three years at the University of Florida before signing with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2021. After playing quarterback, he transitioned to tight end in 2022. Atlanta waived him in 2023, then joined the Panthers in 2024. Franks started the season on the active roster, was briefly released, and then signed to the practice squad, where he contributed as a standard elevation last week. He has already made his mark on special teams, and with Ian Thomas (calf) on IR until early October and Jordan Matthews released, Franks is poised to take on a depth role for Carolina.Source: Around The NFL @AroundTheNFL
3 days agoThe Cleveland Browns have signed free-agent running back Royce Freeman to their practice squad. Freeman, a seven-year veteran, was released by the Dallas Cowboys in August and now joins the Browns. A third-round draft pick by the Denver Broncos in 2018, he has also played for the Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, and Los Angeles Rams. Last season, Freeman appeared in 14 games with the Rams, accumulating 319 yards and two touchdowns. With Nick Chubb and Nyheim Hines sidelined, the Browns have been thin at running back, and as of Tuesday, Pierre Strong Jr. is listed as "week to week" with a hamstring injury. Jerome Ford and D'Onta Foreman have been handling the majority of the carries. Freeman must establish a significant role before fantasy managers consider adding him to their rosters. He could have an opportunity to contribute as soon as this Sunday against the Giants.Source: Jeremy Fowler @JFowlerESPN
3 days agoVikings head coach Kevin O'Connell praised wide receiver Jalen Nailor, highlighting his speed and versatility: "I just was really, really happy just how fast he played. Even on routes he wasn't targeted, you could see the separation and his ability to win against man coverage." In the Vikings' 23-17 victory over the 49ers, Nailor caught three of four targets for 54 yards and a touchdown, finishing second in receiving yards behind Justin Jefferson (quadriceps). His 10-yard touchdown grab in the third quarter marked his second touchdown in as many weeks. With Jordan Addison sidelined due to an ankle injury, Nailor played 93% of offensive snaps, becoming a key contributor. Despite flying under the radar, he's only minimally rostered in leagues but could be a valuable speculative add if Jefferson or Addison miss time. In a potential high-scoring Week 3 matchup against the Texans, Nailor could step in as the No. 2 wideout for Sam Darnold.Source: The Coachspeak Index @CoachspeakIndex
3 days agoThe Houston Texans signed free-agent tight end Irv Smith and former starting center Scott Quessenberry to their practice squad on Tuesday following successful tryouts, according to league sources. Smith, a former second-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings out of Alabama, will give Houston more depth at the TE position behind Dalton Schultz, Brevin Jordan and rookie Cade Stover. He has 109 career receptions for 973 yards and 10 touchdowns in his career with the Vikings, Bengals and Chiefs, but injuries have really held him back from reaching his true ceiling. Texans center Juice Scruggs (groin), who missed the Week 2 win over the Bears on Sunday night, is on track to return this week against the Vikings, but Quessenberry will give the team more depth at the position. Quessenberry started for Houston two seasons ago when Justin Britt stepped away for personal reasons.Source: KPRC 2 Sports - Aaron Wilson
3 days agoGreen Bay Packers defensive back D.J. Reed (ankle) was able to suit up for a full practice session on Tuesday. Reed was limited to open the week, but now appears to be headed in the right direction ahead of the Week 3 matchup against the New England Patriots. The former fifth-round pick was forced to sit out last week's win over the Tennessee Titans. The absence of Reed would likely give Michael Carter III and Jarrick Bernard-Converse more playing time. However, fantasy managers should expect Reed to be out there after a full session on Tuesday which should give this defensive unit a boost on Thursday.Source: jets.com
3 days agoNew York Jets defensive back Michael Carter III (ankle) was upgraded to a full participant during Tuesday's practice session. That is good news after Carter opened the week with a limited session, but he seems to be fine now. The 25-year-old has reportedly been playing through this ankle issue during the first two games of the season. If he suffers a setback, Brandin Echols is next on the depth chart, but Carter appears to be fine for now. The Jets secondary is a bit banged up with both Carter and D.J. Reed (knee) on the injury report heading into Thursday's game against the division-rival New England Patriots.Source: jets.com
3 days agoNew England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers (shoulder) remained as a limited participant during Tuesday's practice session. This is now back-to-back days that Peppers has been limited in practice. This is not a great sign heading into Thursday's Week 3 matchup against the New York Jets. The former first-round pick has been a solid contributor early in the season. Peppers has recorded six tackles in both of the first two games of the season. The absence of Peppers would certainly be a hit to this defensive unit. Marte Mapu would likely be asked to start if Peppers is unable to go on Thursday.Source: patriots.com
3 days agoNew England Patriots center David Andrews (hip) was upgraded to a limited participant during Tuesday's practice session. This is good news after Andrews was estimated as did not practice on Monday. It sounds like Andrews is heading in the right direction ahead of Thursday's game against the New York Jets. Andrews has been the Patriots primary center since joining the team in 2015. His absence would be a huge hit to this offensive line. If Andrews sits, Nick Leverett would likely be tasked with starting under center on Thursday. However, it seems like Andrews is headed towards playing in Week 3.Source: patriots.com
3 days agoThe Houston Texans hosted free-agent tight end Irv Smith for a workout on Tuesday. Smith spent the offseason with the Kansas City Chiefs but was released after final roster cuts. Smith is a hyper-athletic tight end but has never put it all together in his career to enjoy sustained success. Should the Texans sign Smith, it would likely be to add depth to a tight end room that already includes Dalton Schultz and Brevin Jordan.Source: Tom Pelissero
3 days agoThe Carolina Panthers released tight end Jordan Matthews on Tuesday. Matthews had yet to record a statistic in 2024. Fantasy managers may remember Matthews as the tight end who enjoyed success in Philadelphia from 2014 to 2016 prior to the rise of Zach Ertz. Those days are long gone, however, as Matthews has not been a fantasy factor in several years. The Panthers offense is something that fantasy managers should stay away from anyway, and this move does not affect that assessment.Source: Ari Meirov
3 days agoThe Miami Dolphins released wide receiver Robbie Chosen on Tuesday. Chosen signed with the team after being released by the 49ers after the preseason. Chosen had played in both of the Dolphins' first two games this season. He recorded one reception for five yards in those games. Chosen has bounced around the league in recent years but has seen regular season time with the Dolphins in each of the past two seasons. However, his fantasy impact days are gone. Chosen may very well end up on another practice squad but do not expect much production from him should he see any game action.Source: Tom Pelissero
