3 days agoBaltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (illness) remains out of the starting lineup for the third straight game on Tuesday against the Seattle Mariners. The 27-year-old continues to sit out due to ongoing illness. This sounds like a minor issue that shouldn't force Mountcastle onto the injured list. In his absence, Ryan O'Hearn covers first base while Heston Kjerstad serves as the designated hitter for Tuesday's game against the Mariners.Source: mlb.com
3 days agoSeattle Mariners catcher Mitch Garver (wrist) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The veteran slugger will take a seat after getting hit by a pitch in the hand during Sunday's contest. Currently, Garver is considered as day-to-day with a right wrist contusion. In the meantime, Cal Raleigh will do the catching while Mitch Haniger serves as the designated hitter during Tuesday's contest.Source: mlb.com
3 days agoLos Angeles Angels infielder Brandon Drury (illness) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Oakland Athletics. The veteran slugger is back in the lineup after missing 10 games due to a respiratory illness. He'll cover second base and bat seventh versus right-hander Mitch Spence on Tuesday. Drury hasn't done much damage with the bat this season, but fantasy managers that do have him rostered can get him active for this game.Source: mlb.com
3 days agoLos Angeles Angels pitcher Jose Soriano (abdominal) has been activated off the 15-day injured list on Tuesday. The right-hander missed one start while dealing with an abdominal strain. Soriano will take the ball for Tuesday's matchup against the Oakland Athletics. The 25-year-old has pitched well with a 3.48 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 60/28 K/BB ratio across 14 appearances (12 starts) this season. He's worth a look as a streaming option especially against the A's offense.Source: mlb.com
3 days agoArizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Joe Mantiply will serve as the opener ahead of Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The veteran southpaw will get the starting nod in what looks to be a bullpen game for the D-Backs. The assumption is that Mantiply will face a few batters before handing off the ball to Ryne Nelson who will pitch a bulk of the innings. This is a situation to avoid in fantasy leagues, especially against this Dodgers lineup.Source: Theo Mackie
3 days agoNew York Mets designated hitter J.D. Martinez (ankle) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Washington Nationals. The veteran slugger is being pulled out of the lineup due to left-ankle soreness. Fantasy managers don't need to panic, as this sounds like a minor issue. For now, Martinez should be considered as day-to-day until further notice. Luis Torrens will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth versus Nationals rookie left-hander DJ Herz. UPDATE: Martinez blamed his ankle issue on a delayed shipment of Adidas cleats. He's day-to-day and doesn't know when his new shoes will come in.Source: sny
3 days agoTexas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (hand) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the San Diego Padres. It sounds like Seager is doing better after being hit by a pitch during Saturday's game. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Seager remains day-to-day with a left hand contusion. Josh Smith will cover shortstop and bat second versus right-hander Dylan Cease on Tuesday. Fantasy managers should expect Seager to be back in the lineup at some point this week.Source: Shawn McFarland
4 days agoToronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (finger) is back at first base and batting third in the order on Tuesday against the visiting Houston Astros and rookie right-hander Spencer Arrighetti. Guerrero was hit in his finger on his right hand in Sunday's contest against the New York Yankee. X-rays came back negative, but the Blue Jays scratched him as a precaution for the series opener on Canada Day on Monday against the Astros. The 25-year-old right-handed hitter is back for fantasy managers now and needs to be returned to all starting lineups, especially given the fact that he's heated up at the dish of late. Guerrero will be taking a modest six-game hitting streak into Tuesday's game. During his streak, he's gone 13-for-26 (.500) with four home runs, five doubles and 17 RBI to raise his season slash line to .297/..375/.471.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoNew York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (head) is sitting out on Tuesday against the division-rival Washington Nationals for the second straight day. Nimmo slipped at his hotel room on Sunday night and suffered a cut on his forehead and is now missing his second straight game to begin the series against Washington. The 31-year-old avoided a concussion, though, so he's day-to-day and could be back in there on Wednesday. The struggling Jeff McNeil will start in left field again on Tuesday and bat ninth against Nationals rookie left-hander DJ Herz. McNeil, a former batting champion, has fallen on hard times in 2024 and is danger of losing playing time if he doesn't pick things up offensively. The good news is he's hit better against lefties this year, going 20-for-79 (.253) with a homer and six RBI, but he's a DFS fade out of the nine-hole the way he's been hitting.Source: New York Mets
4 days agoThe Toronto Blue Jays recalled infield prospect Leo Jimenez from the minors on Tuesday and placed utility man Isiah Kiner Falefa (knee) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 1) with a left-knee sprain. The team's No. 5 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, isn't in the starting lineup for Toronto on Tuesday versus the visiting Houston Astros. However, the 23-year-old could be mixed in occasionally moving forward with Kiner-Falefa on the injured list at both second and third base. Jimenez's stay in the big leagues could be on the short end, so fantasy managers in redraft leagues shouldn't break the bank for him on the waiver wire. The Panamanian middle infielder hit .271/.416/.431 with an .847 OPS, seven home runs, 23 RBI and 40 runs scored in 57 games for Triple-A in the minors this year to earn his first big-league promotion.Source: MLB.com - Keegan Matheson
4 days agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley is not in the starting lineup for the Reds on Tuesday against the New York Yankees in the Bronx, even with a right-hander on the mound. Nick Martini, Stuart Fairchild and Will Benson are starting from left to right field in this one, with Martini batting sixth, Fairchild in the eight-hole and Benson hitting ninth against Yankees right-hander Luis Gil. It appears to just be a day of rest for Fraley, who hit .266/.324/.313 with no homers, three doubles, two RBI and two stolen bases in 20 games in the month of June. The 29-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder also has 11 total stolen bases on the year, but his fantasy value in mixed leagues remains limited as a platoon player who has been injured off and on this year. Fraley has managed just one homer and nine RBI in 2024.Source: Cincinnati Reds
4 days agoThe Washington Nationals are holding out second baseman Luis Garcia and outfielder Jesse Winker on Tuesday against the division-rival New York Mets with left-hander Sean Manaea on the mound in D.C. Ildemaro Vargas will start at the keystone and bat fifth, while Harold Ramirez will draw into the lineup at DH and bat third for the Nats. Also, top outfield prospect James Wood is making his second career start in left field and will hit sixth in the order. Garcia has hit just .180 (9-for-50) with none of his seven home runs this year against southpaws, but he's the teams regular second baseman against righties. Winker has had a bounce-back campaign with the Nats this year with nine home runs and 12 stolen bases in 81 games played. With Wood now in the fold in Washington, Winker should see more time as the DH.Source: MASN Sports - Mark Zuckerman
4 days agoChicago White Sox outfielder Tommy Pham is not in Tuesday's starting lineup against the hosting Cleveland Guardians. Gavin Sheets will start in right field and bat cleanup, with Eloy Jimenez serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth against Guardians right-hander Carlos Carrasco. It will be Pham's first day off in the team's last 16 games, and he's served as the leadoff hitter in all of those contests. Center fielder Luis Robert Jr. will get the leadoff duties on Tuesday for the Pale Hose. The 36-year-old Pham signed with the White Sox after the start of the 2024 season and has been a valuable outfield option for the worst team in baseball, hitting .265/.344/.376 with four home runs, 16 RBI and four stolen bases. He'll be a potential trade target for contending teams at this summer's deadline, but a change of scenery will also likely mean less playing time than he's currently seeing.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoThe Toronto Blue Jays placed infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa (knee) on the 10-day injured list when calling up shortstop Leo Jimenez, the club's fifth-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline. Kiner-Falefa has shed the perception of him being a defensive-only player by hitting .292/.338/.420 with seven homers, 33 RBI, 32 runs scored, and three stolen bases. Fantasy managers may want to consider Jimenez as a waiver wire option for those looking for middle infield help. He was slashing .271/.416/.431 with seven homers, 33 RBI, and 40 runs scored. Jimenez slashed .271/.416/.431 with seven homers and three steals with Buffalo this season. The 23-year-old will have an opportunity to establish himself for a franchise struggling to stay in the American League Wild Card chase.Source: Keegan Matheson, MLB.com
4 days agoThe return of pitcher Christian Scott to the New York Mets may lead to the club moving Jose Butto to the bullpen. Butto has been impressive in his brief time as a starter, sporting a (1-3) record with a 3.08 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 38 innings, striking out 38 and walking 21 over seven starts. The Mets envision Butto as a multi-inning reliever so he can stay stretched out if he needs to return to the rotation. Butto has a promising arm and could provide value in fantasy leagues where holds are a category. He could return to the rotation if Scott falters in his return or if another Mets starter is injured, making Butto a stash in deep-league formats for now.Source: Mike Puma, New York Post
