1 month agoAustin Cindric tried his hardest to deliver a clutch victory at Charlotte to lock himself into the Round of 8 after his near-miss at Talladega. He started and finished fourth at the roval in his best road course drive in the Cup Series since his second-place finish at the Indianapolis roval in 2022. Although he never quite had winning speed, he did rank fifth in speed and generally outran both his Penske teammates who advanced to the Round of 8, even pulling away from Joey Logano in Stage 3 at a time when it looked like Logano might have needed to pass Cindric to advance. He definitely looked a little better in the second half of the season, but was still nowhere near the top eight in performance at any point this season, so it's understandable that he failed to advance.Source: Racing Reference
1 month agoChase Briscoe essentially had no chance of advancing to the Round of 8 in the NASCAR playoffs unless he won at the Charlotte roval, which was going to be an extreme longshot to begin with since he only qualified 25th. However, he was ultimately eliminated from the playoffs after being involved in a string of incidents, including the Austin Dillon/Tyler Reddick crash on lap 31, then losing a tire a few laps later before he suffered terminal damage in the pileup when Brad Keselowski spun a few laps after that. Although the damage appeared to be only cosmetic, it resulted in a steering failure, which knocked Briscoe out of the race and relegated him to a 36th-place finish. However, he has no reason to feel upset since he definitely exceeded expectations this season and his wife gave birth to twins last week, which is a nice consolation prize.Source: Racing Reference
1 month ago23XI Racing's Bubba Wallace is an interesting driver worth consideration as a tournament play for the Charlotte Roval this week. Wallace has three finishes of 16th or better in six career starts at the Roval, but they were all collected in his last three appearances at the site. The No. 23 Toyota driver also has four finishes with positive Place Differential scored in his Cup career at the Roval. Through 31 races so far this year, Wallace has 23 top-20 finishes, including all races at road and street courses. In first practice, Wallace ranked ninth in both five consecutive and overall lap averages while ranking fourth in 10 consecutive lap averages. In final practice, Wallace ranked fourth in both overall and five consecutive lap averages compared to the rest of the field. Although Wallace qualified ninth for this week's race, his great practice speeds and cheaper salary compared to over half of the field do make him a driver who is rosterable in tournament games for DFS at the Roval. 1 month agoFront Row Motorsports driver Michael McDowell should not be overlooked for this week's DFS slate at the Charlotte Roval for the Bank of America ROVAL 400. The veteran road racer qualified 21st for this week's race, marking his lowest starting position at the site since 2020. In six previous races at the Roval, McDowell's best finish is 12th and he collected positive Place Differential at the site three times. McDowell has 14 top-20 finishes through 31 races so far this year, including three top-10 finishes at road and street courses. The No. 34 Ford driver ranked 26th in overall lap averages in first practice while in final practice, he ranked 15th in the same category. It would not be a shock to see McDowell gather another favorable result this week similar to other road course events this season.Source: DriverAverages.com

1 month agoSpire Motorsports rookie driver Carson Hocevar will start 20th in this week's Bank of America ROVAL 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway's Roval Course. This week will be the first time ever that Hocevar will be racing at the track in any of NASCAR's three national series. In 31 races completed this year as a Cup Series rookie, Hocevar has 20 top-20 finishes, including eight of the last 10 Cup events. At road and street courses, Hocevar has two top-20 finishes, including a third-place run at Watkins Glen, his most recent road course start. In the first practice, Hocevar ranked 14th in five consecutive lap averages, ninth in 10 consecutive lap averages, and 15th in overall lap averages, while in final practice, he ranked 31st in overall lap averages. With favorable equipment capable of placing in the Top 20 regardless of track type and recent consistency this year, Hocevar is a sneaky driver worth consideration for any DFS format.Source: DriverAverages.com
1 month agoJustin Haley qualified for this week's Bank of America ROVAL 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway's Roval Course and will start the race from the 33rd position, which is the lowest starting spot obtained by Haley since his first race at the site in 2021. In three previous starts at the Roval, Haley has three finishes with positive Place Differential and a best finish of fifth from the 2022 race at the site. With 31 races completed this year, Haley has 12 top-20 finishes and an average finish of 22.9. At road and street courses this season, Haley has two finishes with positive PD acquired and a best finish of 16th at the Chicago Street Course. Haley ranked 31st in overall lap averages in first practice, and in final practice, Haley ranked 28th in overall lap averages and 25th in five consecutive lap averages. Based on his track history, equipment, and practice speeds, Haley is one of the more favorable and usable drivers to add to any DFS lineup this week due to his high upside.Source: DriverAverages.com
1 month agoTy Gibbs of Joe Gibbs Racing will start the Bank of America ROVAL 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway's Roval Course from the 19th position, his lowest start position to date in his Cup career at the site. In two previous starts at the Roval, Gibbs had one top-5 finish, which was a fourth-place result in last year's race. After 31 races so far this season, Gibbs has 22 top-20 finishes, with 12 inside the Top 10. At road and street courses this year, Gibbs has two top-5 finishes and two finishes outside of the Top 20. In first practice, Gibbs ranked 15th in five consecutive lap averages and eighth in 10 consecutive lap averages, while in final practice, Gibbs ranked 23rd in five consecutive lap averages. Although Gibbs displayed mixed speeds in practice and mixed results at both road courses and at the Roval in the past, the No. 54 Toyota driver is still usable in most formats as he has favorable upside and equipment capable of placing in the Top 15.Source: DriverAverages.com

1 month agoAll eyes are on Shane van Gisbergen this weekend at the Bank of America Roval 400. The Xfinity Series regular won the pole for this weekend's race at the Charlotte Roval and also posted the fastest lap in the final practice session ran on Saturday. SVG recently finished second at Watkins Glen a month ago and has a road course victory under his belt in the Cup Series as well (at the Chicago Street Course last season). There is no doubt that the No. 13 Chevrolet is going to be strong on Sunday afternoon, and van Gisbergen will be on the optimal strategy to win the race due to the fact that he doesn't care about points racing (like some playoff drivers likely will). It's hard to handicap SVG in the Cup Series since his equipment is questionable and he has very limited experience, but you can't dispute the fact that he has speed and will be a contender at the Charlotte Roval on Sunday.Source: ifantasyrace
1 month agoWilliam Byron is a solid DraftKings pick this weekend at the Charlotte Roval, but there is a good chance that DFS players are going to overlook him when building their lineups for Sunday's Bank of America Roval 400. Don't make that mistake. With Shane van Gisbergen and AJ Allmendinger (as well as Kyle Larson for that matter) priced higher than Byron this weekend, many DraftKings players will likely gravitate toward the Kaulig Racing drivers and then look elsewhere to fill out the rest of their lineup. However, Byron has a legitimate shot to win this race. The No. 24 Chevrolet had the best 10-lap average during practice on Saturday, and Byron was the runner-up finisher here at the Charlotte Roval last season. Additionally, Willy B went to victory lane at COTA earlier this year (another road course race). At $9,800 on DraftKings, Byron is definitely worth consideration this weekend, as he presents the combination of Place Differential upside (he qualified 10th) as well as race-winning potential.
