6 days agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder) was outstanding in his return off of the injured list on Saturday, tossing six innings of one-run ball, allowing just two hits and striking out nine Royals in a crucial 2-1 victory as the Braves look to lock down a wild-card spot. The 30-year-old has had a terrific season, even earning his first All-Star appearance this season, but has been limited in the second half due to injuries. Still, he came up big when the Braves needed it and will finish the regular season with an 8-5 record, an ERA of just 2.00, a 1.11 WHIP, and a K-BB% of 19.3%. The righty may have helped fantasy managers to are still in it to a championship and he'll look to continue that success next season in Atlanta.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

7 days agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane Baz tossed his third consecutive quality start in Saturday's 7-2 victory over the Red Sox, allowing two earned runs on just three hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings of work, picking up his fourth win. Baz has looked good since coming off of the IL in July after his recovery from Tommy John surgery, other than perhaps some command issues which he's cleaned up as of late, with just four walks compared to 23 strikeouts over his last four starts. The righty looked like he had a promising future before requiring Tommy John, and that still looks to be the case after he posted a 3.06 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 14 starts. While the 13.2% K-BB% overall doesn't jump off the page, the last four starts were more in line with what managers should expect from the former first-rounder next season, as he pitched to a 20.9% K-BB% over that timeframe.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

7 days agoTexas Rangers first baseman Nathaniel Lowe went 3-for-4 in Saturday's 9-8 win over the Angels, including a walk, a double, and belting his 15th home run of the year. The 29-year-old also collected three RBI and scored three times in the contest. Lowe's numbers would have been in line with 2023's results had he not missed time due to injury, but it would still have been a far cry from 2022 when he blasted 27 home runs, hit .302, and registered a wRC+ of 143. With one game to go, the Mississippi State product's line is .259-14-64-57-2 with a .328 wOBA and 114 wRC+.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

7 days agoBaltimore Orioles third baseman Emmanuel Rivera had his best game of the season in Saturday's 9-2 win over the Twins, reaching base in each of his five plate appearances. The 28-year-old went 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a pair of home runs, plus he drove in four runs and scored three times. Rivera hadn't received a start in the Orioles' prior five games, so he certainly made the most of his opportunity. Rivera came over from the Marlins in August and has hit well in Baltimore when given the chance, slashing .323/.380/.597 with four home runs, 14 RBI, and nine runs scored in 71 plate appearances.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

1 week agoTampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero had a huge day at the plate, racking up three hits and three RBI in the Rays' 7-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. Caminero blasted his sixth HR of the season off Red Sox start Kutter Crawford, a two-run shot in the third inning. He added an RBI single in the fifth and another single in the seventh to collect his third hit and improve his OPS to .741 on the season. The 21-year-old has been a mainstay at third base for the Rays since his promotion in August. Tampa's No. 1 prospect has seen fairly true results with his .303 wOBA balancing out with his .302 xwOBA. Dynasty managers with Caminero on the roster should expect him to continue to get starts at third base and DH in the 2025 season, giving him plenty of solid value. He'll look to finish his season strong on Sunday against the Red Sox who have yet to name a starter.--Kevin Larson - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

1 week agoMiami Marlins outfielder Dane Myers had a huge day at the plate on Saturday, recording two hits and mashing a three-run homer in the Marlins' 8-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Myers added on a two-run double along with his three-run homer to give him five RBI on the day. The 28-year-old spent the first half of the season in the majors with Miami but has spent most of the season recovering from an ankle injury he sustained after kicking a door in anger in July. Saturday marked his third game back and easily his best day at the plate in terms of RBI. His OPS increased to .788 on the season, an improvement over his .644 OPS in 2023. Fantasy managers in dynasty leagues may want to keep an eye on Myers going forward, though he'll likely only have value in deeper leagues.--Kevin Larson - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

1 week agoPittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher was dominant in his short outing on Saturday and didn't allow a single runner on in his two innings of working during the Pirates' 9-4 win over the New York Yankees. Skenes finishes with a 1.96 ERA on the season with an 11-3 record and a strong case to win the National League Rookie of the Year award. The 22-year-old dazzled all season long and had 22 starts allowing just two ER or fewer. Fantasy managers of all leagues have been thrilled with his performance and he should certainly be a target to hold onto in keeper leagues. In 2025 he may experience some negative regression as his 1.96 ERA is paired with a 2.56 xERA, but his xERA still ranks in the 96th percentile. Should his numbers stay any bit similar to his 2024 season, and if he finishes the 2025 season healthy, he will contend for and likely win the Cy Young award.--Kevin Larson - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

1 week agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Masataka Yoshida is not in Saturday's lineup as the Red Sox continue their finals series of the season against the Tampa Bay Rays. Yoshida has gotten the starting nod in each of the past three games and will take another day off on Saturday afternoon. As a result, Mickey Gasper will get serve as the designated hitter. Yoshida has enjoyed an excellent second-half as he has posted a .299/.370/.453 slash line with six home runs and 43 RBI compared to his .260/.325/.373 line he held in the first-half. Fantasy managers should expect Yoshida to return to the starting nine in game No.162 on Sunday. Gasper is best to fade in DFS as he will face Tampa Bay right-hander Shane Baz who has carried a stellar 1.95 ERA and a 0.76 across his past six starts.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

1 week agoNew York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (hand) left Saturday's game after getting hit in his right hand by a pitch, according to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. He was replaced by Oswaldo Cabrera. After taking the pitch, Rizzo tried to remain in the game but was eventually removed later in the afternoon. Fantasy managers should not expect Rizzo to be penciled in the starting nine on Sunday afternoon in the regular-season finale, as the Yankees will likely exercise caution with their starting first baseman ahead of the playoffs. Cabrera will likely be the next man up at first base if Rizzo misses an extended period of time heading into October.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Chris Kirschner

1 week agoSan Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski will take a seat on Saturday afternoon as the Giants continue a series with the St. Louis Cardinals. The 34-year-old has been showcasing his power as of late with three long balls in his past 11 games. As a result, Heliot Ramos will cover right field and bat second. Yastrzemski has seen his power production slightly increase this summer with a high of 18 home runs, a feat he has not accomplished since the 2021 season. Ramos has carried a stellar .323 AVG over the past week and is worth a look in DFS as he will face St. Louis right-hander Andre Pallante who enters Sunday with a 3.71 ERA.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

1 week agoPhiladelphia Phillies outfielder Austin Hays (back) is dealing with a sore back, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic. Hays has started in each of the past three games but will take a seat on Saturday afternoon out of precaution. Fantasy managers need to monitor the Philadelphia starting nine on Sunday, as Hays may be given an additional day to rest before the playoffs begin next week. As a result, Weston Wilson will cover left field and bat in the eight-hole on Saturday. Since joining the Phillies at the trade deadline, Hays has held a .256/.275/.397 slash line with five doubles and two home runs. Wilson should be avoided in DFS this afternoon while facing Washington ace MacKenzie Gore.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Matt Gelb

1 week agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Randy Vasquez was promoted from Triple-A earlier on Saturday afternoon to start on Saturday evening when the Padres face the Arizona Diamondbacks. Vasquez has spent the entire month in Triple-A and has held a rough 7.20 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. Through his previous 40 1/3 innings at the big league level, the 25-year-old has posted a 5.58 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, with a 15:26 BB:K ratio. Fantasy managers and DFS players should avoid Vasquez as a streaming option this evening as he will face a tough Arizona lineup that has hit right-handed pitching quite well this season with an excellent .788 OPS.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
