2 weeks agoNew York Islanders left wing Anthony Duclair (leg) faces an extended period on the sidelines. According to Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello, Duclair is dealing with a long-term injury but is expected to return this season. The 29-year-old suffered a leg injury in Saturday's 4-3 shootout win against Montreal. Duclair has tallied two goals and three points in his first five appearances with the Islanders. Lamoriello expects to know a more specific timeline for his return on Tuesday. Simon Holmstrom took over from Duclair on the top line at the weekend and also practiced in the spot on Monday. Meanwhile, Brock Nelson is expected to replace Duclair on the first power-play unit.Source: Sportsnet
2 weeks agoTampa Bay Lightning right wing Cam Atkinson is set to rejoin the action on Monday versus Toronto. The veteran winger was a healthy scratch for Saturday's matchup against Ottawa. Overall, Atkinson has featured just twice for the Lightning so far, posting one assist with two shots. His role has been very limited, as Atkinson has averaged only 8:56 of ice time. This makes it difficult for him to have an impact in fantasy hockey. Atkinson is slated to skate with Conor Geekie and Nicholas Paul on the third line on Monday.Source: NHL.com
2 weeks agoToronto Maple Leafs left wing Max Pacioretty will slot back into the lineup on Monday against Tampa Bay. The 35-year-old veteran has sat out the past two games as a healthy scratch. Pacioretty landed in the press box following a quiet start to the season. He scored his first goal for the Maple Leafs in only his second game with the team, but this has remained his only point across three appearances. He has recorded the same number of shots and penalty minutes (4) while averaging 11:18 of ice time. Pacioretty will join John Tavares and Nicholas Robertson on the third line on Monday and skate with the second power-play unit. Ryan Reaves makes way in the lineup.Source: Lance Hornby
2 weeks agoWinnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey kept his season-opening point streak going with a pair of assists in Sunday's 6-3 triumph over Pittsburgh. He had both of his helpers in the third period when the Jets turned a 3-3 tie into a comfortable win. Morrissey made a big impact defensively as well, blocking a game-high five shots with one hit. He now boasts seven points (one goal, six assists) through five games, sitting tied for second on the defensemen scoring list. Morrissey faces St. Louis next on Tuesday night in a matchup where he has posted back-to-back two-assist games.Source: ESPN
2 weeks agoSan Jose Sharks left wing William Eklund scored a power-play goal in his return to the lineup on Sunday versus Colorado. He returned to work following a one-game absence with an upper-body injury. Eklund scored his first goal of the season late in the first period, but it ended up being the Sharks' lone marker as they couldn't hang with the Avalanche in a 4-1 loss. While working over four minutes on the power play, Eklund ended up logging 18:59 of ice time. It was a slow start to the campaign for the Swede, but he has now collected three points (one goal, two assists) in his past two appearances.Source: ESPN
2 weeks agoColorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar racked up one goal and two assists in Sunday's 4-1 victory over San Jose. Both of his helpers came in the first period, one in a power-play situation, and Makar completed the scoring with an empty-net goal. Makar tied a league record for the fewest games to 10 assists in a season by a defenseman. He's also tallied two goals while becoming the fifth active defenseman with a season-opening scoring streak of six-plus games. It's been a phenomenal start from Makar, although you can't say it's surprising, considering he put up 90 points last term while missing five games. 100 points could be a realistic target for the Avalanche star in 2024-25.Source: ESPN
2 weeks agoColorado Avalanche forward Ross Colton had a second consecutive multi-goal night on Sunday against San Jose, scoring the first two goals in a 4-1 win. He opened the scoring with a power-play marker. Colton is benefiting from skating on the top line and the first power play unit. He heads into the new week on a three-game goal streak. Having scored six times across the campaign, Colton is tied for the second-most goals in the league. He's also had one assist in six games with 22 shots on goal during a hot start. The 28-year-old will be out to set a new career high with a four-game goal streak when Colorado faces Seattle on Tuesday night.Source: ESPN
2 weeks agoAnaheim Ducks forward Ryan Strome extended his point streak to three games with a goal in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Kings. The Ducks were almost shut out on home ice, as Strome tallied the team's only goal with less than two minutes remaining in regulation. Troy Terry and Frank Vatrano picked up the assists. The trio makes up Anaheim's third line, but they showed their scoring potential on Sunday. Strome went scoreless in the first two games of the season before starting his streak, which includes two goals and one assist. With him in good form, more success could be on the horizon for the entire third line. Anaheim has a very favorable matchup next as the leaky Sharks visit the Honda Center on Tuesday. Source: ESPN
2 weeks agoLos Angeles Kings right wing Alex Laferriere popped up with a second consecutive game-winner in Sunday's 4-1 road victory against the Ducks. The two teams left scoring very little, and neither offense didn't get going until the third period. Laferriere potted an unassisted goal at the 8:59 mark in the frame. It's been a highly successful start to the season for Laferriere, as he sits tied for the team lead with four goals. In six outings, the 22-year-old has also registered one assist. Laferriere skated on the third line Sunday night but has also seen time on the first line, boosting his fantasy value.Source: ESPN
2 weeks agoLos Angeles Kings defenseman Mikey Anderson enjoyed a multi-point outing in Sunday's 4-1 victory over Anaheim, finishing the contest with one goal and one assist. Anderson helped Adrian Kempe to start the scoring with 3:08 played in the third period and produced the final goal of the game near the end of regulation with the Ducks' net empty. With the productive outing, Anderson became only the third Kings defenseman since 2019-20 to score in consecutive games. Through six games, Anderson now boasts four points (two goals, two assists) for the season with eight shots, seven blocks, and 10 hits. Fantasy managers will be very pleased with Anderson's all-around contributions, although his offensive production will certainly dip at some point -- Anderson has never managed over 20 points in a single campaign.Source: ESPN
2 weeks agoUtah Hockey Club goaltender Connor Ingram continued his good start to the season with a 2-1 overtime victory against Boston on Saturday, making history in the process. Ingram, who improved to 4-0-1, became the first goaltender in NHL history with a season-opening five-game point streak while playing for a team in its inaugural campaign. It's been an impressive run from the 27-year-old, although there has also been some luck involved, with three of Ingram's four victories coming after regulation. The team's hot offense has also played its part in Ingram's historic streak, as he has allowed 3.29 goals with a .882 save percentage. These numbers don't look good on Ingram, but not many fantasy managers will complain as long as he keeps delivering wins.Source: ESPN
2 weeks agoSt. Louis Blues defenseman Philip Broberg has quickly shown why the team was willing to sign him to an offer sheet in the summer. By dishing out an assist in Saturday's 4-3 win over Carolina, Broberg became the ninth rearguard in NHL history to record a point streak of at least six games from the start of his tenure with a franchise. He's the first defenseman to do it since Filip Kuba with the Ottawa Senators in 2008-09. Broberg has bagged one goal and five assists while operating on the second defensive pairing and the second power-play unit. His current scoring rate is clearly unsustainable, but fantasy managers should enjoy it while it lasts. The 23-year-old will try to extend his streak on Tuesday versus Winnipeg.Source: ESPN
2 weeks agoLos Angeles Kings defenseman Joel Edmundson (personal) is set to draw back into the lineup on Sunday versus Anaheim. He has missed a pair of games for personal reasons, but Edmundson has been removed from the non-roster list ahead of Sunday's Freeway Face-Off. Edmundson is a steady defenseman who rarely impacts things from a fantasy perspective. After joining the Kings as a free agent in the summer, he has posted one assist with four shots, eight blocks, and three hits in three games. Edmundson is expected to link up with Brandt Clarke on the third defensive pairing, pushing Caleb Jones out of the lineup.Source: NHL.com
2 weeks agoColorado Avalanche defenseman Devon Toews (lower body) was placed on Injured Reserve on Sunday. He's set to miss a fourth consecutive game because of a lower-body injury. Oliver Kylington and Samuel Girard have seen action on the first defensive pairing in Toews' absence. Kylington produced a pair of scoreless efforts with a minus-two rating in the role before being scratched for Friday's 4-3 overtime victory against Anaheim. John Ludvig was back in the lineup on Friday and might maintain his spot after Colorado secured its first win of the season.Source: Brennan Vogt
2 weeks agoColorado Avalanche left wing Jonathan Drouin (upper body) has been placed on Injured Reserve ahead of Sunday's matchup against San Jose. He will miss a fifth consecutive game, and it's not currently fully clear when Drouin will be able to return. The team reportedly plans to re-evaluate him on Oct. 28. In a corresponding move, Colorado recalled Chris Wagner from the minors on Sunday. The veteran has appeared in two NHL games this season, averaging 6:36 of ice time. He has registered three shots and three hits. Ross Colton is expected to continue filling in for Drouin on the first line. Colton has scored three goals in the past two games.Source: ESPN
