Padres Not Willing To Trade Top Prospects For Chris Archer
6 years agoThe San Diego Padres have inquired about Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Chris Archer, but they are unwilling to include prospects Fernando Tatis Jr. or MacKenzie Gore, who are their top two prospects. San Diego is believed to be willing to give up one or two of their next three prospects from MLB.com's top-30 list. Tatis is having surgery on a fractured thumb, but he should be back next year and had 16 homers and 16 steals at Double-A. Gore, a left-hander, is just 1-5 with a 4.26 ERA and 1.29 ERA, but he does have 49 strikeouts in 38 innings with High-A Fort Wayne this year. Archer has been inconsistent and injured this year, but his strikeout upside remains high and the Padres would be getting a team-friendly deal for a player under club control. This could be a win-win for both sides.
