Padres Not Ruling Out Bryce Harper
6 years agoThe San Diego Padres are not ruling out signing free-agent outfielder Bryce Harper after they agreed to a 10-year, $300 million deal with shortstop Manny Machado on Tuesday. Harper is expected to receive a deal that surpasses Machado's, so it remains unlikely that the Padres would land both of the prize free agents of the offseason. The Phillies have long been the favorites for Harper, but the White Sox, Nationals and Yankees could also jump in. Harper hit a disappointing .249 in 2018 but still had 34 homers, 100 RBI and 13 stolen bases and will turn 27 in October. He's still one of the best young players in the game. San Diego would immediately be a contender in the National League if they landed both Machado and Harper.
