Open Competition For No. 4/5 Receiver Jobs In New England
4 years agoThe New England Patriots competition for the fourth and fifth receiver spots this summer is wide open, in the opinion of The Athletic's Jeff Howe. Assuming full health, Julian Edelman, Mohamed Sanu and N'Keal Harry should be the three starters in the first season without Tom Brady, but things are open to competition from there between the likes of Jakobi Meyers, Damiere Byrd, Marquise Lee and Gunner Olszewski. Meyers might be the best bet after he posted 26 catches for 359 yards in 15 games (one start) in his rookie season in 2019. He and Olszewski were both on the Patriots roster last year as well, so they might get the benefit of the doubt in training camp during an offseason that has been restricted due to COVID-19. Meyers should see more chances in 2020, but he won't be on the redraft radar in standard-sized leagues with quarterback Jarrett Stidham likely leading the charge to begin the season.
