Nolan Arenado Avoids Arbitration
6 years agoColorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado avoided salary arbitration on Thursday by agreeing to a one-year, $26 million contract. It's a record for an arbitration-eligible player. The Rockies have interest in signing Arenado to a long-term extension before he becomes a free agent after the 2019 season, but it remains to be seen if they can accomplish it. Arenado, who will turn 28 in April, is one of the best all-around players in baseball and hit .297/.374/.561 with a National League-high 38 home runs and 110 RBI last year. He's had at least 110 RBI in each of the last four seasons, including 130-plus RBI in three of those years. RotoBaller has him ranked as the No. 5 overall fantasy player.
