3 months agoCincinnati Reds infielder Noelvi Marte is out of the team's starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting division-rival St. Louis Cardinals. With Marte out, Santiago Espinal will draw the start at the hot corner and will bat ninth against Cardinals right-hander Erick Fedde. Marte will get a day off after starting at third base in each of the last 10 games. The 22-year-old Dominican got a late start in 2024 due to suspension and has yet to hit his stride, slashing .179/.218/.299 with three home runs, 12 RBI, four steals and 16 runs scored in 134 at-bats for the Reds. The Reds can only hope that he can figure it out offensively at some point to close out just his second year in the big leagues. Espinal offers a limited ceiling at the bottom of Cincy's batting order with only eight homers and eight steals in 229 at-bats as a utility infielder this year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
