Noah Syndergaard Avoids Arbitration Tuesday
4 years agoThe New York Mets and starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard avoided salary arbitration on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $9.7 million deal, according to sources. The 28-year-old right-hander missed all of the 2020 shortened season after having Tommy John surgery last March. The All-Star is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2021 season. President Sandy Alderson said earlier this month that a June return for Syndergaard is a "reasonable expectation." Thor had a career-high 197 2/3 innings in 2019 but also had a career-high 4.28 ERA. He's posted a 3.31 career ERA in parts of five seasons with the Mets. The hard-throwing starter has always been a high-end strikeout artist, but injuries have made him a high-risk, high-reward fantasy asset.
