Nick Martinez 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Late-Round Value After Strong September
3 days agoCincinnati Reds right-hander Nick Martinez owned a (10-7) record, a 3.10 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 116 strikeouts over 142 1/3 innings in 2024. Martinez shined in September with a 0.83 ERA, 0.67 WHIP, and a 30:4 K: BB over his last five starts (32 2/3 IP). His 3.2 BB% in 2024 was a career-best (down around five points in 2023) and in the 99th percentile per Baseball Savant. He accepted the Reds' $21.05 million qualifying offer during the offseason and is expected to be a key part of Cincinatti's rotation. However, one downside for Martinez is that he lacks fastball velocity, as his average fastball velocity is 92.3 mph (ranks 23rd percentile). Still, he has a variety of pitches (four-seamer, changeup, cutter, and sinker) to get batters out. ATC expects Martinez to regress with a 4.34 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 122 strikeouts over 143 innings. After a strong finish in 2024, Martinez is still worth a late-round flier at his recent NFBC ADP of 348 despite pitching in a hitter-friendly park and slight regression from 2024.
