Nick Bitsko Has Huge Upside In 2020 Draft
4 years agoNick Bitsko, a 17-year-old right-handed high school pitcher out of Pennsylvania, could have the most upside of any pitcher in the 2020 MLB draft, according to many scouts. Bitsko's high school season was canceled due to COVID-19, but he's been rising on some draft boards because he's impressed in Zoom interviews and hit 98.5 mph last week. Because of his big league upside, he might be a top-10 pick on June 10, and he's expected to be among the first 37 selections. Most teams have only seen Bitsko throw a handful of competitive innings, all last summer in showcase environments. He already averages 99.6 percent spin efficiency on his fastball, giving him an elite heater at such a young age. The highest fastball spin efficiency in the big leagues belongs to Justin Verlander (98.5 percent). Bitsko will have to improve his offspeed offerings to become a complete pitcher at the next level, but it's obvious why his right arm is special and why he could be on the fast track to the major leagues after he's drafted.
